Core Tajweed Rules You Will Master

The Science of Quran Recitation

Tajweed has precise, beautiful rules. Every rule has a name, a reason and a divine origin — traced back to how Jibreel عليه السلام taught the Prophet ﷺ.

مَخَارِج الْحُرُوف
Makharij al-Huroof
Points of articulation — exactly where in the mouth and throat each letter originates
صِفَاتُ الْحُرُوف
Sifaat al-Huroof
Characteristics of letters — heaviness, lightness, echo, nasalisation and more
النُّون السَّاكِنَة
Noon Saakinah Rules
Idgham, Ikhfa, Iqlab, Izhar — the four rules governing non-vowelled Noon
أَحْكَامُ الْمِيم
Meem Saakinah Rules
Ikhfa Shafawi, Idgham Shafawi, Izhar Shafawi — the rules of the non-vowelled Meem
أَحْكَامُ الْمَدّ
Ahkaam al-Madd
All types of lengthening — Madd Tabee'i, Madd Mutasil, Madd Munfasil and more
الْقَلْقَلَة
Qalqalah
The bouncing echo on the five Qalqalah letters — ق ط ب ج د — at rest
Course Curriculum

Step-by-Step Tajweed Journey

A structured programme from Tajweed foundations to advanced recitation — building on each rule until the whole Quran flows correctly.

1
Assessment & Error Identification
Teacher listens to your current recitation and creates a personalised error report. This becomes your roadmap — targeting your specific weaknesses first.
First 1–2 Classes
2
Makharij — Letter Origins
Rebuild the foundation. Every Arabic letter has a precise point of origin in the mouth and throat. Correct Makharij is the foundation of all Tajweed.
3–4 Weeks
3
Sifaat — Letter Characteristics
Heavy and light letters, echoing letters, nasalised letters. Each characteristic gives the Quran its unique and beautiful sound.
3–4 Weeks
4
Noon & Meem Rules — Idgham, Ikhfa, Iqlab, Izhar
The four rules of Noon Saakinah and Tanwin — and the three rules of Meem Saakinah. Essential for reading any page of the Quran correctly.
4–6 Weeks
5
Madd — Lengthening Rules
All types of Madd (lengthening) — from the basic 2 counts to the extended 6 counts. This is where recitation gains its flowing beauty.
4–6 Weeks
6
Applied Tajweed — Full Quran Reading with Rules
Apply all rules simultaneously while reading actual Quran passages. Teacher corrects in real-time. Student builds confidence until Tajweed becomes completely natural.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions Answered

Do I need to complete Nazra first?
You should be able to read the Quran fluently before starting Tajweed. If you are still building your reading fluency, we recommend starting with our Nazra Quran course first. Tajweed is built on an existing foundation of Quran reading.
How long does Tajweed take to complete?
The theoretical rules take 6–12 months to master with regular classes. However applying Tajweed to the full Quran is a lifelong journey that improves with every recitation. Most students see major improvement within the first 3 months.
What is an Ijazah and why does it matter?
An Ijazah is a formal certification that your teacher's Tajweed and Quran recitation is authentic — part of an unbroken chain going back to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It guarantees you are learning the authentic, preserved method of Quranic recitation — not something invented later.
Can I do Tajweed alongside Hifz?
Yes — in fact this is highly recommended. Memorising the Quran with correct Tajweed from the beginning prevents bad habits forming. Many of our students do both simultaneously with great results.
Do you have female teachers for sisters?
Yes. Qaria Maryam Siddiqua holds Ijazah in Hafs from Asim and teaches Tajweed to sisters and young girls in a fully Islamic environment.
